New England style wedding venue

Ok, I will admit I have been thinking about a wedding venue…maybe just a thought or two. My general tendency to peruse other people’s homes, coupled with a new awareness of wedding venues, led me to Foster House. Set in beautiful Kent, lies this New England style clapboard house that is used as a photography and films location, as well as a wedding venue. It’s all so pretty that I wanted to show it to you today but I definitely won’t be getting married here – far too expensive!

The ceremonies take place in the barn below…

The barn looks out onto this beautiful meadow, where you can pitch a marquee.

I love the exterior of the main house; I’ve always been a big fan of new England clapboard houses with wrap around porches. The interior is typical of the style too – all white walls, scrubbed wooden floors and rustic furniture.

My daily inspiration

Have you entered my Loaf giveaway yet to win the gorgeous Apothecary lamp? You’ve got until March 31st to pin the image below – it is that simple. The lamp was inspired by a pile of old apothecary jars in India and I love the simple, vintage-feel of the lamp base.

If you don’t have a Pinterest account set one up here; it is such a great tool to collect inspiration (although it can get quite addictive, I warn you!). I’ve just set up a wedding inspiration pin board on my account and I am slightly worried I may lose hours, if not days, of my life.

The theme of the giveaway is inspiration and so to gain extra entries to the competition, and increase your chances of winning, I have been asking you to upload pictures to Pinterest of what inspires you on a daily basis. I wanted to show you some of my daily inspiration images that I have pinned here, just in case you need some inspiration (that’s the seventh time I have used the word inspiration in this post so far!).

Vintage wallpaper and Loaf bed www.apartmentapothecary.com

I’m always inspired by vintage wallpaper; the colours, shapes, patterns, forms and I love creating craft projects with it. I framed a piece for this bedroom as it was too beautiful not to be looked at every day.

This is a postcard that I bought for my mum's birthday this week. I was inspired by the vibrant colours and graphic design.

Loaf giveaway!

Hi everyone! I am very excited to be teaming up with Loaf this month to give my wonderful readers a chance to win a beautiful lamp, which is part of the new Loaf collection, ‘The Whole Hog’ – check it out, if you haven’t already.

Billy table loaf.com

Lots of lovely Loafy products in the Whole Hog collection.

Our competition will combine two of my favourite things: Loaf and Pinterest.  I get so much inspiration from Pinterest – in fact it was one of the reasons I started my blog in the first place – so I decided this should be the theme of the competition.

The lamp we would like to give away to a lucky reader is called the Apothecary lamp because while wandering around Jaipur last year the Loafers were inspired by a pile of glass apothecary jars in a chemist which – though pretty dusty – were stunning examples of brilliant old school Indian glass-blowing. It was decided they would make gorgeous lamps – and I hope you all agree that the end result is pretty gorgeous (I wish I could win it for myself!).

I couldn’t choose anything but this lamp for the prize because it matches the name of my blog, which was inspired by the first time I met Jules, my fiancé. We met in a bar whilst he was drinking from a bottle that looked like an apothecary jar. The bottle caught my attention before he did (sorry Jules!!).

What inspires you day to day? We would love to know.

Painted white floor

I thought I’d give you a little floor update today (this may excite me more than you!). When I decided to do my hallway makeover (t’s going to be ready so soon – I will explain to you then why it has taken so long) it quickly became apparent that I needed a new floor covering as the fresh paint made the carpet look awful, which is not helped by having a very muddy dog. So, I wrote a post about how I chose a new floor and I finally decided, after getting a quote of £3500 for a beautiful oak floor, that I needed to go cheap as my nice salary will no longer exist soon.

We pulled up the carpet in just the hallway last weekend and found MDF boards. We are going to seal these and use a Farrow and Ball floor paint to paint them white and then invest in some beautiful rugs. This floor will continue into the kitchen and sitting room, which I hope will give the flat a more modern feel, as beige carpet never seemed quite right with our white walls and huge windows. Anyhoo, I want to share my inspiration with you and then I promise to get it done soon and share how we did it…
