Linen

Hi everyone. I hope the transition from lazing around in pyjamas watching movies and eating mince pies for breakfast to going back to work has been bearable.

What’s been inspiring you this week? For me, it’s been all about light and fresh surroundings, light and fresh food and drink and taking it easy on myself as I know I never feel particularly happy at this point of the year so anything to lighten the mood. I am geeing myself up to do a mini-bedroom makeover next month. I want to brighten and refresh my room, which in large part will come from removing the carpet and painting the floor white (really not looking forward to that bit!). I have also fallen in love with the idea of having dusty pink linen – look how beautiful it is! Just look! This is some of my bedroom inspiration…

I’ve got a case of linen love real bad! Such a shame my bank balance won’t quite stretch to a new set at the moment.

Enjoy your weekend.

Blog love

Happy weekend everybody! It’s a been a busy week prepping for Christmas posts and I’m super excited to share my favourite post to date on Monday. I’ve set my self the challenge this year to decorate without any of the traditional reds, golds and greens and create an alternative Christmas table using pastel colours, which are my favourite at the moment. I was sent lots of lovely goodies from Occa-Home for the table so it’s extra special and I even made some octahedrons to decorate with – you will have to join me on Monday to find out what that’s all about!

For this weekend’s inspiration, I’ve included a couple of posts based on using non-traditoinal colours and materials to decorate with this Christmas, as well as some great DIY home ideas…

1. Wit and Delight

I love this blog post about how to create a Christmas garland, but using non-traditional colours and greens. I think the results are stunning…

2. The Red Thread Blog

4. Lapin Blu

Some home DIY inspiration from the creative Sarah-Lou whose gorgeous house was featured on Design Sponge last month. This blog post is about the potato printing she and her daughter did to create this wonderful Ferm Living-esque wall…

5. The Villa on Mount Pleasant

Lots of creative DIY ideas to be found in Tamsyn’s ‘new’ kitchen. Very inspiring for anyone renovating their own home, whatever your style…

So there’s my round up of what has inspired me this week and I hope it inspires you this weekend. Have a lovely one, whatever you are up to, and please do drop back on Monday for my pastel Christmas table.

Cape Cod cottage

Happy weekend everyone! What have you got planned? I think we’re going to have quite a lazy one as it’s been such a busy and full-on fortnight. Maybe just a trip down to Maltby Street market on Saturday morning, cosy up in the afternoon and then a bit of making on Sunday. Bliss.

I’ve got a beautiful house for you to look at today, which transported me away from dreary, cold London to the prospect of simple summer living in a part of America I long to visit. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but sometimes you can find inspiration in homes where you would never expect to find it. This Cape Cod cottage was built in 1807 and belongs to Remodelista‘s Justine Hand, who has tried to keep all of the original features of the cottage in tact. She has furnished the cottage minimally and instead, added floral arrangements to every room to bring life into every corner.

There is so much that I take away from a home like this: the colour palette, the beauty of simple furniture, pared back clutter-free living. I love it. What do you think?

Styling the Seasons inspiration

It has been a busy week as I’ve tried to catch up on all the work I’ve not been able to do over the last three weeks. Now that I am officially off bed rest, life has gone from being incredibly boring to completely hectic in the blink of an eye. Another nicer change has been going out on dog walks again so that I can breath in the new season, kick dried leaves and enjoy wearing my wellies again; it’s quite incredible how much the outdoors has changed in the space of three weeks. This week has been rather beautiful in London, for the most part, with golden, low light and some amazing blue skies. So, I decided that you should look no further this weekend for inspiration than the wondrous Styling the Seasons photographs for October. Not only do they beautifully reflect the change of season, but I love the freshness of a newly styled surface; I honestly think it has the power to refresh a whole room. You don’t need to buy anything new, all you have to do is wander around your home and pick out some of the objects you like best that may not be shining as much as they should be. Bring your favourite objects together and create a new display on one of your surfaces, be it your coffee table, mantelpiece, sideboard or shelf.  You could even add some nature – conkers, leaves, foliage, flowers. I promise you, it will be worth it and it’s not as hard as it looks, just try not to think about it too much (there are some more tips for you here). Here’s some inspiration from some of the lovely folk who have already taken part in #stylingtheseasons

There are so many more that I love that you must see by searching for #stylingtheseasons on: Instagram, Facebook or Twitter or visit my Pinterest board, which will take you through to the lovely blog posts that have been written. Have a go, be creative, experiment and enjoy! That sounds like the best kind of Sunday to me.

Blog love

I hope you’ve all had a lovely week – how wonderful was yesterday’s weather? I went for my first walk with Jules and Otto in a while and it was so strange that we were both in short sleeves walking over dry leaves and squinting in the low sun. It was really quite heavenly.

Jules came to bed at 3am last night after cracking a bug that he’s been tackling for weeks (he’s a web developer). I could feel so much of his stress melt away so I’m hoping we are going to be able to have a relaxing weekend that seems to have eluded us for a while. I am, however, going to have to miss my favourite girl’s hen-do tonight, which I am very sad about – also sad not to be drinking all the gin 😉

What have you got planned this weekend? If you need a bit of reading, inspiration or a project or two, I can point you in the right direction…

A Quiet Style

Emma (one of my favourite IG’ers – check out her images here) has started a brilliant new monthly column called My Favourite Flower. Each month she invites a guest to share their favourite flower and how they like to display it around their home. You must pop over to see the first instalment as it is a beauty and you’ll get so many ideas.

Bright.Bazaar

Will has launched his first photographic print collection and there are some stunners! It’s such a happy and vibrant collection, all taken by Will on his travels. Check it out and decide which is your favourite (I love Fisherman’s Pride).

Fall for DIY

This is a blog that I have only recently discovered and it’s a delight – how did I not know about it before?! I love this DIY macrame hanging pumpkin tutorial – a perfect project for this weekend.

Mad about the house

I do this weird thing of looking at houses on Rightmove just for fun. As it turns out, Kate does the same thing and finds the most amazing houses to show us all in her regular column, Househunter. So, drift off into fantasy land and decide which of Kate’s picks is your dream home…

Wit and Delight

There are Dahlias everywhere I look at the moment and one of my lovely readers, Louise, even emailed me a photograph of hers to cheer me up this week – so lovely! In case, you have been looking on longingly and wanting to grow your own, there is a great guide on Wit and Delight this week.

Have a lovely one!
